Snatch-Back was a dream by self-taught music loving kids. We formed in 1974 inspired to write our own style of Rock Music. Our broad interests & lack of theory influenced a unique style. Snatch-Back split in the late 80s due to other musical challenges, relocations and rock star hedonist activities. All good bands have crazy stories & Snatch-Back are no exception.
Due to amazing continued interest in the band we have decided to play again and get some material recorded for our fans.
In our formative years we were fired by live shows in Liverpool & Manchester from up & coming young bands like Deep Purple, Ten Years After, Mott The Hoople, Genesis, The Faces, Bad Company, Back Street Crawler, Budgie & Mountain.
Hungry to escape an Industrial St Helens in North West England, we organised new music venues as there were none around. Before too long we were in demand throughout the North West playing alongside many album bands at venues like The Warrington Lion & Wigan Casino. We also achieved full houses at self-promoted St Helens gigs in clubs & Theatres.
Unbelievably, Snatch-Back recorded very little material but the fans knew all of our tracks. Recall, there were no mobile phones or internet promotion and no easy way to share music at the time, so this was no mean feat. Gig promotion in those days involved a van, a load of posters and a big bucket of wallpaper paste!! In 1979 Snatch-Back released a single on CSS Records ‘Eatern Lady’ c/w ‘Cryin’ to the Night’ , which is now highly collectable. This gained us a mention in Malc Macmillan’s veritable tome ‘The Encyclopaedia of The New Wave British Heavy Metal.’
Snatch-Back were truly “Indie” before the term was born. We have kept that vision alive with our unique approach to playing our very own original Rock material. The reunion was a pipe dream that fast became a reality and the fantastic response from our fans to our comeback has spurred us on to new recordings and gigs. WE ARE BACK!
